Spread Compost, Sand, and Screened Soil Faster
Top dressing a lawn by hand can mean hours of pushing wheelbarrows, dumping piles, and repeatedly raking material across the grass.
Rent the Earth & Turf 410SP from Steves Rental to spread compost, sand, screened topsoil, and compatible topdressing blends faster, more evenly, and with much less physical labor.
This self-propelled, stand-on top dresser carries the operator and the material across the lawn. Its compact size, four-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, and tight turning radius make it especially useful for residential lawns and other properties where a larger top dresser may be difficult to maneuver.
Why Rent the our Stand-On Top Dresser & Compost Spreader?
The Stand-on unit is designed for customers who have more lawn to cover than they want to spread by hand but still need a machine compact enough for residential properties.
Renting it can help you:
Save time and money
Get your job done more effectively and more efficiently
Complete large top-dressing projects faster
Apply material more consistently
Carry up to 800 pounds of material per load
Travel forward or backward without manually pushing the machine
Maneuver around trees, landscape beds, buildings, and lawn edges
The 410SP has an eight-cubic-foot struck capacity, a 12-cubic-foot heaped capacity, and a manufacturer-rated maximum load of 800 pounds. Actual safe loading depends on the weight and moisture content of the material.

A Faster, Better Alternative to Wheelbarrows and Rakes
Spreading compost or soil by hand usually involves several separate steps:
- Load a wheelbarrow.
- Push it across the lawn.
- Dump small piles.
- Return for another load.
- Spread and level the piles with a rake.
- Repeat until the entire property is covered.
Our Stand-On Compost Spreader carries and spreads the material continuously as you drive. One operator can load the hopper, travel across the lawn, and distribute an even 30-inch-wide layer without repeatedly dumping and raking individual piles.
The machine can travel at speeds up to 5 mph
Consistent Application at Different Travel Speeds
The Stand-on Top Dresser’s conveyor belt is synchronized with its ground speed.
As the machine speeds up or slows down, the conveyor adjusts with it. When the machine stops, the material belt stops. This helps maintain more consistent coverage and reduces the likelihood of leaving excessive material where the operator slows down.
An adjustable end gate controls the amount of material reaching the rotating expeller brush. The gate can be adjusted for a light top dressing or a heavier application, depending on the material and the needs of the property.
Even 30-Inch Spread Pattern
The stiff-bristled rotating expeller brush distributes material in a controlled 30-inch-wide pattern.
Unlike a wide broadcast spreader, our stand-on machine places material directly behind the machine. This gives the operator better control around:
- Landscape beds
- Walkways
- Driveways
- Fences
- Buildings
- Trees
- Property edges
- Previously completed areas
The machine can apply material at depths of up to approximately one-half inch.
Stand-On Operation Reduces Walking
The operator rides on the rear platform instead of walking behind the machine.
This can significantly reduce fatigue on larger properties, particularly when compared with pushing a loaded wheelbarrow or operating our smaller walk-behind spreader.
The controls are designed so the operator can control speed and direction with one hand and steer with the other.
Four-Wheel Drive and Four-Wheel Steering
Four individual hydraulic wheel motors provide four-wheel drive and help move the machine while carrying dense materials such as sand or damp compost.
All four wheels steer together, giving the 410SP a tight turning radius. This makes it easier to work around obstacles and complete clean passes near lawn edges.
Brush Expeller
The Stand-On Top Dresser features the same brush expeller used on our walk-behind model, the 100 SP. This brush expeller has proven long lasting and efficient for an even spread pattern.
Tight Turn Radius
You will be able to top dress like you’ve never been able to before with the incredibly tight turn radius. The individually driven wheels make this machine extremely maneuverable; you won’t find anything like it on the market.
Loading Chutes
Loading chutes come standard on this stand on top dresser and make loading easy. With 48″ length, and a 42″ peak height at the front, these chutes make loading simple and clean with mini skid steer or compact loader!
Easy-to-use Controls
We’ve designed the controls for the 410 SP to be easy to use and quick to learn. Control speed and direction with one hand and steer with the other!
4 Wheel Drive – 4 Wheel Steer
Four individual hydraulic motors drive and steer each wheel individually. This means the machine drives at exact speed according to the speed control levers.
Proportional Spreading
The feed rate adjusts as you speed up or slow down to provide an even, consistent spreading of your material
